Brown Jelly Disease

Common LPS coral disease causing tissue loss

Symptoms

Brown, jelly-like mass accumulating on coral tissue (E1: common LPS coral disease).
Rapid tissue loss spreading across the colony.
Affected area breaks down quickly and can smell foul.

Common Causes

Infection that takes hold on stressed or damaged coral tissue.
Common after fragging, shipping, or handling stress.
Poor water quality and elevated organics weaken coral defences.

What to Check

Test water parameters and correct any spikes immediately.
Isolate the affected coral if the colony can still be saved.
Review recent handling — brown jelly often follows physical damage.

What Not to Do

Do not wait — brown jelly progresses quickly and can consume a colony in days.
Do not place healthy corals near the affected colony while it is breaking down.
